Evading Holiday Posts

Unlike other blogs, mine doesn't have a post about celebrating Christmas and New Year's eve. For starters, I did not have the time to write. Every time I'm in the mood to write, something comes up. Parties, family reunions, going out with friends and of course, the JBC and Unicity bombing (business establishments) the scared the entire town which made people wary of strolling downtown streets. Second, holiday rush and procastination keeps me from the PC.

And no, this is not a how-I-spent-my-Christmas-break-and-usual-yabadabadoo-like-multitudes-of-bloggers-are-doing post.

So why the hell am I writing? *thinking* I HAVE NO IDEA. Maybe, I just feel like writing. Apparently, my Mom's friends are at home and I can't concentrate reading The Pelican Brief by John Grisham. Wait, I should be studying for our Prelims this Monday. But who the hell would want to pore their noses over books on New Year? Sheesh.

Thus, I was left with no other options but to blog and perhaps post some pictures on Multiply. In the mean time, lemme share with videos made by friends. It's their course requirement for their cases. The videos aren't meant to be funny. But I laughed my heart out anyway. I know the cast and it doesn't help that you rarely see them act with serious faces on camera. Haha.

Introducing D'CANAWAYS' Quit Playing Games version

Others may find the video corny more than funny. But, I think so otherwise because a very close friend of mine is featured on the video (talk about being biased). It's just so hilarious seeing her pulling a man act while lip syncing to the song of the Backstreet Boys' hit, Quit Playing Games.

She's the one wearing the white hood. Watcha think? Corny much? If you don't like it leave the page and don't bother dropping a comment!

courtrooms can be entertaining

Lawyers are very specific with details; eager to find loopholes to defend their cases. Witnesses on the other hand often misunderstand the queries and tend to give far-fetched answers. It may be the nerves or plain..uhm.. lack of common sense. But lawyers appear to have lost their common sense too in their quest of confusing witnesses and turning the case to their advantage.

NOTE: What you will read below are actually taken from official court records (from US, I guess). The ones highlighted in red are my favorites!

  • Lawyer: "Can you describe what the person who attacked you looked like?"
  • Witness: "No. He was wearing a mask."
  • Lawyer: "What was he wearing under the mask?"
  • Witness: "Er...his face."
  • Lawyer: "Did you blow your horn or anything?"
  • Witness: "After the accident?"
  • Lawyer: "Before the accident."
  • Witness: "Sure, I played for ten years. I even went to school for it."
  • Lawyer: "Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?"
  • Witness: "No."
  • Lawyer: "Did you check for blood pressure?"
  • Witness: "No."
  • Lawyer: "Did you check for breathing?"
  • Witness: "No."
  • Lawyer: "So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?"
  • Witness: "No."
  • Lawyer: "How can you be so sure, Doctor?"
  • Witness: "Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar."
  • Lawyer: "But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?"
  • Witness: "Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere."
  • Lawyer: "What happened then?"
  • Witness: "He told me, he says, 'I have to kill you because you can identify me.'"
  • Lawyer: "Did he kill you?"
  • Witness: "No."
  • Lawyer: "I show you Exhibit 3 and ask you if you recognize that picture."
  • Witness: "That's me."
  • Lawyer: "Were you present when that picture was taken?"
  • Lawyer: "What is your brother-in-law's name?"
  • Witness: "Borofkin."
  • Lawyer: "What's his first name?"
  • Witness: "I can't remember."
  • Lawyer: "He's been your brother-in-law for years, and you can't remember his first name?"
  • Witness: "No. I tell you, I'm too excited." (rising and pointing to his brother-in-law) "Nathan, for heaven's sake, tell them your first name!"
  • Lawyer: "Doctor, did you say he was shot in the woods?"
  • Witness: "No, I said he was shot in the lumbar region."
  • Lawyer: "Could you see him from where you were standing?"
  • Witness: "I could see his head."
  • Lawyer: "And where was his head?"
  • Witness: "Just above his shoulders."
  • Lawyer: "Now sir, I'm sure you are an intelligent and honest man--"
  • Witness: "Thank you. If I weren't under oath, I'd return the compliment."
  • Lawyer: "Do you know how far pregnant you are now?"
  • Witness: "I'll be three months on November 8."
  • Lawyer: "Apparently, then, the date of conception was August 8?"
  • Witness: "Yes."
  • Lawyer: "What were you doing at that time?"
  • Lawyer: "You don't know what it was, and you didn't know what it looked like, but can you describe it?"
  • Lawyer: "Now, doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, in most cases he just passes quietly away and doesn't know anything about it until the next morning?
  • Lawyer: "What is your marital status?"
  • Witness: "Fair."
  • Lawyer: "So you were gone until you returned?"
  • Accused, Defending His Own Case: "Did you get a good look at my face when I took your purse?"

*The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to ten years in jail.

David Cook vs David Archuleta Commercial

Laugh your heads off watching the two American Idol hot shots, David Cook and David Archuleta only wearing..ehem..polo shirts and briefs while trying to knock off being a guitar hero rock star.

Allow me to be biased. David Cook looked like he's been doing it for years, while Archuleta, uhm.. strained it too hard. It didn't look right, man. Haha.

Filipino Signs of WIT

FILIPINO SIGNS OF WIT:

1. The sign in a flower shop in Diliman called Petal Attraction.
2. Anita Bakery
3. A 24-hour restaurant called Doris Day & Night
4. Barber shop called Felix the Cut;
5. A coffee shop named Brews Almighty
6. Fast-food place selling 'maruya' (banana fritters) called Maruya Carey.
7. Then, there are Christopher Plumbing
8. A boutique called The Way We Wear
9. A video rental shop called Leon King Video Rental
10. A restaurant in Cainta district of Rizal called Caintacky Fried Chicken
11.. A local burger restaurant called Mang Donald's
12. A doughnut shop called MacDonuts
13. A shop selling ‘lumpia’ (egg roll) in Makati called Wrap and Roll
14. And two butcher shops called Meating Place and Meatropolis.

Smart travelers can decipher what may look like baffling signs to unaccustomed foreigners by simply sounding out the 'Taglish' - the Philippine version of English words spelled and pronounced with a heavy Filipino such as:

15. At a restaurant menu in Cebu. The sign read and spelled, “We hab sopdrink in can an in batol?”
16. Then, a sewing accessories shop spelled Bids and Pises. You mean Beads and Pieces? Lol!!!

There are also many signs with either badly chosen or misspelled words but they are usually so entertaining that it would be a mistake to 'correct' them like.......

17. In a restaurant in Baguio City - Wanted: Boy Waitress Lol!!!!

18. On a highway in Pampanga - We Make Modern Antique Furniture

19. On the window of a photography shop in Cabanatuan - We Shoot You While You Wait

20. And on the glass front of a cafe in Panay Avenue in Manila - Wanted: Waiter, Cashier, Washier

Some of the notices can even give a wrong impression such as:

21. A shoe store in Pangasinan - We Sell Imported Robber Shoes

22. A rental property sign in Jaro reads - House for Rent, Fully Furnaced

23. Occasionally, one could come across signs that are truly unique - if not altogether odd. City in southern Philippines - Adults: 1 peso; Child: 50 centavos; Cadavers: fare subject to negotiation

24. European tourists may also be intrigued to discover two competing shops selling hopia (a Chinese pastry) called Holland Hopia and Poland Hopia - which are owned and operated by two local Chinese entrepreneurs, Mr. Ho and Mr. Po respectively believe it or not.

25. Some folks also 'creatively' redesign English to be more efficient. The creative confusion between language and culture leads to more than just simple unintentional errors in syntax, but in the adoption of new words?
Says reader Robert Goodfellow who came across a sign..... House Fersallarend (house for sale or rent). Why use five words when two will do?

26. According to a Manila businessman, there is so much wit in the Philippines because? We are a country where a good sense of humor is needed to survive? We have a 24-hour comedy show here called the government and a huge reserve of comedians made up mostly of politicians and bad actors.

27. A restaurant in Quezon City with the name - “Cooking Ng Ina Nyo!”

28. Because business was good, another restaurant on the next block opened with the name “Cooking Ng Ina Nyo Rin!”

29. A certain Susan opened a flower shop south of metro manila… and the name of the shop is “Susan’s Roses”

30. A bakery named Bread Pitt

Taken from Dara's blog which she took from Brian Gorrel's blog.
It's just so funny that I'd have to grab it from her and share it here.

Idiotic Retort

Idiots really add spice to life.

"Bono, lead singer of the rock band U2, is famous throughout the entertainment industry for being more than just a little self-righteous.

At a recent U2 concert in Glasgow, Scotland, he asked the audience for total quiet.

Then, in the silence, he started to slowly clap his hands, once every few seconds. Holding the audience in total silence, he said into the microphone, 'Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies.'

From the front of the crowd a voice with a broad Scottish accent pierced the quiet ...

'Well, f -- ckin stop doin it then, ya evil bastard!'"

Jokes Jokes Jokes

The jokes and pictures below come from Himantayon.com. Ever since Vanessa posted it on her blog, I was immediately hooked! Haha. Either you're not a Bisaya native or your just plainly, undeniably ALIEN, abnormal or simply incapable of digesting humor. My friend, if your the latter, you've got one, very sad monotonous life. To those corny bastards out there looking for fun, you're on the right track!
