Actor-Comedian Bernie Mac Dies at 50

Hollywood lost a scene-stealer comedian in the morning of August 9, 2008, Saturday. Bernie Mac died from pneumonia. It was said that the actor suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease, since 1983. However, ironic as it seems, the cause of his death was not related to sarcoidosis at all.

Mac had two movies up his sleeve at the time of his death. "Old Dogs" which he'll supposedly film with Robin Williams and John Travolta and "Soul Men" alongside Samuel Jackson and Jennifer Coolidge were still on the works. He was also involved in two television series --- a comedy, "Starting Under" and a reality TV show, "Welcome to the Family." A pity he won't be able to finish what he started.

Bernie Mac was truly one of the Kings of Comedy and Hollywood couldn't be sadder for the loss. A few of his colleagues expressed their posthumous thanks and praises for the comedian actor who brought smiles and laughs to the world.

Here's what some of them got to say.

"It goes without saying that Bernie was one of the preeminent comedians of our generation. He was also an attentive husband, a great father & loving grandfather. I feel blessed to have shared years of friendship with Bernie Mac and I’m honored to have finally co-starred with him in what I consider to be his finest cinematic acting achievement. My sincere prayer is that his family will be comforted by the warmth of love from all of us who knew and respected this man," -Samuel Jackson

"My deepest condolences go out to Bernie’s family,” she said in a statement. “I am shocked by his sudden loss. In reflection, I remember how undeniably present, funny and fatherly Bernie was, not only in his work but with everyone he came in contact with. It was a true blessing to have worked with him. I will miss him dearly."
-Zoe Saldana, Mac's onscreen daughter in 'Guess Who
